What visitors find at The Mob Museum

The Mob Museum presents the history and impact of organized crime alongside the work of law enforcement. The nonprofit’s exhibits use artifacts, videos, interactive displays and multimedia across four floors.

The building itself is part of the story. The museum occupies the former U.S. Courthouse and Post Office, which opened in 1933. On November 15, 1950, Senator Estes Kefauver’s committee held a hearing in its second-floor courtroom about organized crime’s involvement in the Las Vegas casino industry.

Among the featured displays are the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre wall and ballistics evidence, the historic courtroom, the Crime Lab and the Firearm Training Simulator. The basement’s The Underground combines a speakeasy and distillery with exhibits on Prohibition and the wreckage of the Lizzie D.

How much time should you plan for the exhibits?

How much time should you plan for the exhibits?

Plan on one to three hours, depending on how closely you want to explore. The exhibits are arranged chronologically, and the museum recommends starting on the third floor before working through the displays at your own pace.

Some interactive experiences have age limits: the Crime Lab is for ages 11 and up, the Firearm Training Simulator for ages 16 and up, and the Distillery Tasting for ages 13 and up.

Participants must be 21 or older to take part in the sampling portion of the tasting. Strollers are permitted in exhibit spaces, and family restrooms are on every floor except the basement. Service animals are permitted; other animals are not.

What can you combine with a downtown museum visit?

The Mob Museum’s location makes it possible to pair its exhibits with time on Fremont Street. The Fremont Street Experience guide explains what to expect there, giving you a separate downtown stop to plan around the museum.

If you want to include The Underground, it is part of all three museum passes, though its opening schedule differs from the museum’s. You can also keep the visit focused on the courthouse and exhibits, which take one to three hours to explore.
